“Lauren is just as quirky, intelligent, and down to earth as her character, and it shows in her writing.” –Candace Reads
My Review in a Nutshell:
If you haven’t watched Gilmore Girls, I do NOT suggest you read this book. It is filled with spoilers! But, if you’re as much of a Gilmore Girl fanatic as I am, then this book will undoubtedly be everything you hoped for. Lorelai, uh I mean, Lauren Graham sparkles with analogies and advice on life, inspiring me in more ways than one. Bonus: She gives us her thoughts on The Last Four Words- capitalized for emphasis.
What’s It All About?
Talking as Fast as I can is 224 pages of Lauren Graham and her hijinks’. Each chapter an individual moment that has some sort of importance to her. The topics vary: dieting, being a woman in Hollywood, celebrity stories, love, her interesting childhood—all the way to the time her butt auditioned for a role! Lauren takes her hilarious stories and spins them into a feel-good lesson on life.
My Thoughts?
My first audio-book! Four hours of fast talkin’ (literally) Lauren and all of her wisdom, could you really ask for more? Why, yes! We could! And she give us more; her behind the scenes stories of Hollywood are shocking and hilarious, filled with cute anecdotes of other actors she’s met. Really, the whole book is funny, and if she isn’t making you laugh, it’s because you’re in deep thought over the raw truth she just dished out on love, work, feminism, exercise- you name it! . Lauren is just as quirky, intelligent, and down to earth as her character, and it shows in her writing.
I laughed out loud multiple times! This book is good for the soul. I feel lighter, stronger, and more okay with woes of life. It’s funny how a book can do that, isn’t it?
My Favorite Quotes:
“I still find that in general, having a plan is well a good plan, but when my carefully laid plan laughed at me, rather than clutch at it too tightly, I just made a new one. Even if it was one that didn’t immediately make sense. In blindly trying a different path, I accidentally found one that worked better, so don’t let your plan have the last laugh.”
“You know how before a party you clean up your house so everyone thinks you live that way all the time? That’s meeting someone at an award show. It’s a way more exaggerated version of meeting anyone you hope to impress for the first time. You present the ‘fresh flowers on the table, bed always made’ side of yourself first. But ultimately, you are going to slip and show your house the way it is on a morning when you’re running late for work or can’t find an outfit. And that’s a relationship.”
“You can’t live a life secured in by Spanx. “
“Bell bottoms will go in and out of style every few years for the rest of your life. They’ll tweak them just enough to make you think you need new ones. You do not. Keep the ones you already have. “
