 My Review in a Nutshell:

My go-to genre is paranormal romance, always has been, always will be. But when I do stray from my usual, I default to Brenda Rothert. I can always depend on her for a quick and easy read, unlike her men, there’s nothing quick and easy about them.

What’s It All About?

Kane has begun the road to righting his wrongs from the past that still haunts him. Although he has become a better man and wildly successful, he does not believe he deserves happiness. That is until he encounters Viv, an attorney who is intrigued by him, and not at all intimidated by his sketchy past or rough exterior. But Kane has a dark secret that is ripping him apart, and he knows if Viv finds out, she will never look at him the same. Will Kane be strong enough to overcome his past and fix his biggest mistake, before it destroys their relationship or worse, him?

My Thoughts?

Barely Breathing rotates between Kane and Viv’s perspectives, Kane being more of the front runner, considering he was the one with the “issues”, it made sense. My enjoying this book is not complex: good story, good characters, and good sex! But with a slew of modern romances, why choose this one over others? Well, it’s simple. This wasn’t your run of the mill “damsel in distress” story, quite the opposite, more like Dane in distress! I love a heroine who has her crap together. Kane, not so much, he’s a hot mess. It was refreshing to have two characters from different walks of life come together and make some AWESOME chemistry for our reading pleasure. Also, Kane and Viv had more going on in their lives other than their impending romance. Side stories are strewn throughout, which is always a plus to me, keeping me on my toes with unpredictable twists and turns.

My only complaints are more of a personal preference, I could do with-out some of the cheesy dialogue, or the out of nowhere arguments that ensue, usually coming from Kane’s complexes (which is realistic, I supposed, we’ve all been there).

Once again, Brenda has written out another wonderful romance that I devoured in a day. I highly suggest any of Brenda’s books to lovers of romance, she has an abundance of them and they are ALL good. Not to mention she dishes them out like hot cakes!
