My Thoughts?
I haven’t cried this much since The Fault in our Stars. Sometimes, you finish a book and rarely think of it again; but this series will stick with me for a very long time. I felt so invested in Josie and Seth’s story after watching them develop into characters I admire.
You know how sometimes books have these really obvious cookie cutter endings? Well, put your seat belt on, The Prophecy will take you for a ride through the Rockies. The good kind, but dear Baby Jesus, it is painful. Like, throw you off a cliff and then pick you back up, throw you off again, get bit by a few sharks, and then be rescued type of painful. But ultimately relieved, if not a little scarred.
Not only did I cry my heart out, I laughed my butt off, and blushed my cheeks off. Be prepared for loads of sexy time. Seth and Josie are to the point where their love is not questioned, and the major focus is on the state of the world, which is in a slight form of dystopia (love this element). I saw NO WAY OUT for the Army of Awesome, which kept me on my toes until the very last pages. I’m still blown away by the twist the story took.
So. We laughed, we cried, but did we learn anything!? YES. The Prophecy tackled sexism, feeling insecure, equal rights, racism, and so much more. The world needs this book, it is written in a language that most will relate to, through curse words. Sounds strange, right? But a message this deep needs a ‘fuck’ or two. Because you can still be philosophical and all that jazz while cursing like Seth. I would say “curse like a sailor”. But no, It’s curse like Seth.
